Match 15 - Ferntower Golf Club v Blairgowrie (Away) RESULT

Sadly, Blairgowrie lost 7-1,  but at least it wasn’t a total whitewash!

On Monday 29th June Ian Beattie and his team had a lovely golfing day, playing on a very well prepared course. As usual, they enjoyed excellent post match hospitality.

Many thanks to Ian and his team, but we have a wee bit of catching up on the return home match on Tuesday 4th August when Bill Reid, as Captain will have a real challenge on his hands!   He can do it…….
Oh dear, we are half way through our matches and from the chart above we are:
1 Draw
10 Lost
3 Wins

Match 16 - Edzell v Blairgowrie (AWAY)

Away Match v Edzell  on Thursday 9th July  2015

Meet at 10.15am

Your Captain for this match is Allan Mckay

The following gives details of the proposed Blairgowrie team for the match detailed above.

This is the second leg of this fixture with the first leg ending in a 5-5 draw so there is all to play for.

This fixture is played for the CENTENARY TROPHY  and since the first match in 1985,  Blairgowrie has only won it 4 times  - we lost comfortably  last year - so hopefully we can prevail this year.

Match 14 - Dalhousie v Blairgowrie (Away) RESULT

On Thursday 25th June Dalhousie Seniors had a narrow win over Blairgowrie Seniors 4-3 on the magnificent Carnoustie Championship Course.  However, Blairgowrie won on aggregate 7.5-6.5 due to their excellent home performance at Blairgowrie on 7th May.
While it wasn’t a flaming June day, the conditions were relatively kind, with a light breeze, from most angles, light rain part way round but excellent greens and general presentation of the course.  The only slight drawback was the number of Americans crawling round ahead of us, so a quick game was never really on the cards.

Many thanks to Doug Mitchell and his team for their usual excellent hospitality, and the very acceptable meal on conclusion of a day by the seaside.

Thanks also to the last minute substitutes, Ron Dow & John Brodie who both helped by contributing wins.

Finally, well done to both our Home & Away teams for this success, hopefully there are a few more to follow!

Match 15 - Ferntower Golf Club v Blairgowrie (Away)

Blairgowrie Golf Club Seniors’ Group

Away Match v Ferntowers Seniors  on Monday 29th June 2015

Meeting at Crieff Golf Club at 10.45 am.

The list below gives details of the  Blairgowrie Seniors’ Group team for the match detailed above.

We are playing for The HENDERSON QUAICHE which is currently held by Ferntowers - the results go back to 2004 and the score to date is Ferntowers 10,  Blairgowrie 1.

In the away fixture last year we lost 5 1/2 – 2 1/2 so hopefully we can improve on that this year.

I hope you have an enjoyable day and the weather is kind to you.

Good luck,

 Ian McPherson
Seniors’ Group Convenor

Match13 - Royal Aberdeen (Home) RESULT

On a fresh, brisk, gray summer afternoon Blairgowrie hosted the first leg of their match against Royal Aberdeen.  Unfortunately we lost 5.5-2.5.  However, 3 of our matches went to the 18th and the Captain’s match to the last putt on the 18th, so it could have gone either way.  A special mention to Ron Dow for stepping in at the last minute, and to Allan Reid in the last game on Lansdowne who fought off 2 feisty Aberdonians on his own (giving 13 shots). - Well Done!

The game was played in excellent spirit, probably due to the bar being closed before the game.  However, we made up for it after the match.  The day was concluded with the usual excellent meal provided by Paul and Jane.

Last year BGC Seniors had an overall win of 9-7 after losing our home game!
So we look forward to similar success at Royal Aberdeen on our return match on Thursday 3rd September.

Well done team, this was just the warm up!

Match 14 Dalhousie v Blairgowrie (Away)

Away match v Dalhousie GC Seniors' at Carnoustie on Thursday 25th June 2015
Meet at Carnoustie Golf Hotel at 11:30am - 1st tee off is 12:30pm.

Car parking is easy - just park your car at the hotel car park behind the hotel  and meet in the dining room of the Golf Hotel for coffee and bacon roll at 11.30 am. There is a meal in the hotel following the match.
We won the home Match 4.5-2.5, so playing Dalhousie at home on their own turf should be an interesting challenge. We are playing the Championship Course just after the British Amateur, so it will be in great condition.
However, I'm sure you are up for it gentlemen!

The format below is slightly different on this occasion as I just added our team pairings to the one sent by Dalhousie (with a few minor tweeks).  If anyone is unable to play, please contact Graeme Hunter or Ian McPherson asap with your replacement and his handicap.  Good Luck.

Match 12 Royal Burgess (Away) RESULT

Sadly, an away Loss for Blairgowrie

Due to various scrambled messages it was originally posted as a win for Blairgowrie, but sadly the reality was that our team actually lost 3.5 - 4.5
However, well done David Douglas and his team.  The game was played on the warmest day of the year, so far.  There was even a rumour that some team members exposed their knees to the elements, which is a sure sign that Summer has arrived!

Match 13 Blairgowrie v Royal Aberdeen (HOME)

Your captain for the day is Graeme Hunter who has taken over from Brian Wesencraft who has been disposed of.  Sorry, indisposed, sorry unavailable!

Please meet at the club at 10:45am for coffee & sandwiches ready for first tee-off at 11:30am.
There will be a meal after the game.
The following team sheet is correct as at 14:30 - 13/06/15, if there are any cancellations please contact Graeme Hunter asap with your replacement and their handicap.
To date Aberdeen are 12 - 7 up on matches since this fixture started and although we were defeated 5 – 3 at Home last year, we won 6 -2 at Aberdeen  - so I expect Royal Aberdeen  will put out a very strong side this year  - IMcP

Match 11 - Gullane v Blairgowrie (Away) RESULT

The team captained by David Paterson had an excellent win 5.5 - 2.5 against Gullane played in good conditions over the difficult links.  The course was being prepared for the Scottish Open next month, so is being toughened up for the pros.
Well done to our team and David Paterson for guiding the boys to victory.  I believe the bus didn't even break down this year, so a good day had by all.  Many thanks to Gullane for their usual hospitality, it was greatly appreciated.

Match 10 - Blairgowrie v Elie (Home) RESULT

An excellent win at home for Blairgowrie led by Captain Denny Phillips who stepped in at short notice for Mike Beale.
The match was played in blustery, fresh and showery June weather, as you would expect. Blairgowrie had 6 wins  and 2 halved matches. This is the first leg of the Henderson Salver which will be decided on our away game at Elie on 18th August.     Thanks to the Blairgowrie Seniors Team who thoroughly enjoyed the company of the Elie Seniors who found our tree lined courses an interesting alternative to the treeless Fife Links.   A most enjoyable meal provided by Paul & Jane concluded an excellent day (and a acceptable result!)
