Result - Royal Burgess GS - Home

Revenge at Home v Royal Burgess GS

Despite a fine win , 5 matches to 3,  it was not  quite enough to regain the trophy. The result meant that following 3 - 5 deficit at Barnton the overall result was 8 - 8 meaning that the holders Royal Burgess keep the trophy.

My thanks to David Douglas who stepped in for me as Captain and did a splendid job before and during the game.

Result - New Club St Andrews - Home

Bali Dodo Trophy goes to St Andrews

The Seniors just missed out in holding on to the Bali Dodo trophy with a very creditable draw against a very strong St Andrews side.

With the result at 4  matches each one more win would have been sufficient to retain the trophy - however in very warm conditions a great day was had by all.

My thanks to Bill Reid - Captain for the day - for his work before and during the match.

Result - Ladybank GC - Away

Seniors go down at Ladybank

In perfect conditions our team,  ably led by stalwart Brian Wesencraft , lost by the margin of 5 1/2 matches to 2 1/2 .

This is a always a very difficult away fixture and sadly a common result. However a great day was had by all. My thanks to Brian  - Captain of the day  - for his sterling work before and during the match.

Result - Senior Golfers' Society - Home

Senior Golfers' Society beaten at last !!

Ably led by Captain for the day  - James Macfarlane  we recorded our first win in this foursomes match against the Senior Golfers' Society for 10 years.

Against a very strong side containing none other than our own Vice Captain,  Robin Duncan, we came out on top 4 - 2. This is only our 5th win since the fixture began in 1985 - so congratulations to all who played.

Thanks to James Macfarlane for his sterling work before and during the match - thanks also to Jayne, Paul and the catering staff for such an excellent meal.

Result - Ferntowers GC - Home

Rare win against Ferntowers GC !!!

In a closely fought match  against a strong Ferntowers side we had an excellent win 4 and a half matches to three and a half. This is the first time we have beaten Crieff seniors for many a year.

My thanks to Fraser Ritchie - captain for the day -  for all his work before and during the match.

Result - Pollok - Home

Seniors retain the  "Highland Quaich" v Pollok

The seniors returned to form and in an exciting match ably led by Captain Chris Athanas they won five  matches, lost two with one halved, although the result was much closer than it looks as several matches went to the wire. This is the fourth year in succession we have won this trophy and a welcome win in a bleak year so far.

My thanks to Chris Athanas for all his work before  the match and even with the Pollok bus arriving late, ensuring that everything  ran smoothly on the day.

Result - Downfield - Home

Seniors lose out in close match v Downfield.

In yet another very closely fought match  we suffered another narrow defeat. Despite the games on Rosemount doing very well, the ones on Lansdowne did not fair so well and we lost by one point.

I am very grateful to David Rice for taking over the captaincy  for this match and for his sterling work before and  during the match.

Result - Gullane - Home

A win at last !!

I am delighted to report that our long run of defeats came to a welcome end with  a fine victory over old rivals Gullane by 4 1/2 matches to 3 1/2. However from feedback received, the margin should have been greater and had this been the case it may have been sufficient to overcome the deficit from the Away match - alas we lost overall.

Many thanks to Donald McDonald for his sterling work before and during this match.

Result - Edzell GC - Away

Cuffed at Edzelll !!!

This was the 2nd leg of the fixture against Edzell and despite having a healthy lead from the Home Match ,
and only requiring three  points to achieve an overall win, sadly we could only muster one as we went down nine games to one..

Thanks to Gordon Howe - Captain for the day - for all his  work before and during the day.

Result - Royal Aberdeen GC - Home

Run of defeats continues !!

Despite fielding a fairly strong team,  the team was undone by an even stronger visiting Aberdeen team and we went down 3 -5.

Many thanks to John Thomson - captain for the day in ensuring things ran smoothly on the day.

Result - Ferntowers GC - Away

Defeat at Crieff

Although the result does not show it, this match was very close indeed with many games going to the wire.
The extremely fast  and quirky Crieff greens was the undoing of many of  our team.

My thanks to David Rice for all the work done before and during the match.

Result - Dalhousie GC - Away

Narrow defeat at Carnoustie  means draw over both matches.

In a closely fought match on a cold but bright day our seniors did well to keep the result to 4  - 3 down on the  extremely difficult but wonderful Championship Course.

The means that with a 4 - 3 win at Home it was a draw  7 - 7  overall.

Many thanks to Lee  Bushby - Captain for the day for his work before and during the match.

Result - Royal Burgess GS

Seniors come 2nd at Barnton

In a very close fought match we sadly went down  5 - 3 against a very stuffy Burgess team. With many of the  matches going to the final hole this match could have gone  either way but it was a vast improvement on last year's result and bodes well for the return match at Blairgowrie in September.

My thanks to Ian Beattie who carried out his Captain's duties in his usual expert fashion.

Result - Gullane GC

Great Day - Pity about the result !!

Leaving Perth in horrendous weather, matters did not improve when the bus broke down at Milnathort,  however a replacement bus quickly appeared on the scene and together with excellent help and support from the Police, bags were quickly transferred to the new bus and the team arrived at Gullane on time.

The weather also changed remarkably for the better and despite losing to a strong Gullane team 5 1/2 to 2 1/2 everyone had a great day out helped greatly by the excellent hospitality provided by Gullane GC.

My thanks to Fergus Young  for his excellent work before and during the match.

Result - Elie GC

Victory at last !!

Following a run of poorish results,  the Seniors, ably led by Captain of the Day - David Douglas  - had a magnificent win 7 - 1 over their old rivals Elie GC.

Thanks David for all the work done in the run up to the match.

Result - Glasgow GC

Glasgow GC  gain narrow victory at Killermont

In a very closely fought  match we sadly  went down 4 1/2 to 3 1/2 to continue our losing run of results.
With most of the team playing this course for the very first time in a way it was a very good result.
My thanks to Brian Wesencraft for his excellent work as Captain for the day.

Result - New Club St Andrews GC

St Andrews come out on top

Despite losing by 5 1/2 to 2 1/2  most of the matches went to the 18th hole and the result could easily have been reversed - however all enjoyed a wonderful day out at the home of golf.

My thanks to Ian Dunbar for all the organisation and captaining the side on the day.

Result - Ladybank GC

 Ladybank win yet  again !!

Against a very strong Ladybank  team we sadly went down yet again  by  6 matches to 2.

We have yet to beat this team !!!

My thanks to Mike Beale for captaining the side and doing the admin etc.

Result - Glenbervie GC

Glenbervie Retain Trophy

Our Annual match against Glenbervie started with a bang as the first pair of  John Brodie and Jim Donald returned a fine win - however from there it all went downhill and despite the fact that many of the remaining matches were very close we were well and truly beaten 7 - 1.

My thanks to John Brodie - captain for the day - for his sterling work, and to those subs who stepped in at the last minute.

Result - Downfield GC

Disaster at Downfield

Sadly after our magnificent win against Edzell - we came  down to earth with a bump and but for one halved match we could have been looking at a whitewash but finished with a result exactly the same as last the one last year - 1/2 - 7 1/2.

Thanks to Captain for the day Stewart Ferguson  for his pre match organisation.

Result - Edzell GC

Magnificent win v Edzell - 7 1/2  - 2 1/2

For the first time in many years we recorded a very good win against a strong Edzell side .

Thanks to  Captain for the day - Hamish Hodge  - for his excellent work in all the pre-match organisation.

Result - Ladies Match

Narrow win in opening match V  Ladies Section.

It was fitting that our opening match against the Ladies was played in fine sunny weather and after a very close match  we had a marginal win 7 - 5   although with several games decided at the 18th  hole  the result could easily have gone the other way.

Everyone had a most enjoyable game ending with an excellent meal.

My thanks to Captain  Graham Hunter - for making sure everything ran smoothly on the day,  and to his wife Margaret the Lady Captain  and her team for such an entertaining and close fought game.

The photograph below shows  Graham receiving the Columbine Cup from  his wife Margaret.
